Agreement between Elliott T. Lane and James Buchanan concerning funds of Jane B. Lane, Elliott’s wife and James’ sister, and in case she makes no will, how the estate will be divided. Involves bequeaths from her father, James Buchanan, and her mother, Elizabeth Buchanan. Also mentioned in the agreement are her sister, Harriett Henry, and her brother, the Reverend Edward Y. Buchanan, and her four children, James B. Lane, Elliott E. Lane, Mary Elisabeth Lane and Harriett Rebecca Lane. Franklin County, PA.

Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson detailing his travels from Philadelphia, to Harrisburg, and then to Lancaster and possibly New York unless detained by orders of the President; feels closer to her since he knows that the waters of the Susquehanna flowing by him now will soon enter the Chesapeake Bay and then flow by her in Annapolis; jokes about writing long letters; found her mother in good spirits after seeing her in Philadelphia; is writing from the home of James B. Lane (Harriet Lane’s brother) in Lancaster where all are kind, but he doesn’t like Lancaster and longs to be in New York; has plans to see both her mother and her soon; needs to be in New York on March 4 to be admitted to the bar.
