Wilkes “tea fight”; mentions Miss Emily, the Ingrahams, and the parties of Mrs. Grims and Lady Napier; will get her a ticket to the Great Ball if she wishes; solicits her mother’s news in the next letter. Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson looking for her next letter; hopes she enjoyed her last party; Picolomini is singing, but he is not going to hear her; visited her sister Emily but she was out; the Ingrahams told him that Mary and Miss Margie were coming to town for a few days; list all the parties he hates to attend including Miss Saunders’ ball; General Cass’s dinner; the Douglas’s ball; Mrs. Riggs’ and Mrs. Merricks’ ball; and a reception at the President’s; still has a cold; infers she is the reason for his appreciating life more; Dr. Dan is flitting about on the social circuit; hopes Dr. Dan will find a “sweet little aunt” at Belvidere; the Scharffs are enjoying married life; Bob Magraw returned to Baltimore; the Cobbs and others on the Rev. Cutter’s expeditions dropped in on the Scharffs; and James Buchanan Henry will take to Scharffs to a reception and a large State dinner. Henry saying that he cannot take part in any more land deals at the moment and thinks little of Greenfield and Kapff; asks after Rob, Will, and Sid; sorry to hear of Randy Hagner’s accident with a gun; telegrams about war with Spain appear in the paper but nothing is definite or authentic; the spring weather is cold, windy, and rainy; and cites the mail dates and always appreciates his mail. Envelope with postmarks and torn where stamp was addressed to J. Buchanan Henry, forwarded from Hotel Maryland, Annapolis, Maryland, United States of America to a hotel in Washington, D.C.
