Letter from Nahum Capen to Harriet Lane Johnston referring to the forty letters that he had received from President Buchanan. The letters had been relayed from Mr. Reed to Mr. Curtis to Rev. Dr. Buchanan, who has unpacked 18 of them and not yet found the paper giving the conversation between President Buchanan and Col. Benton. Mr. Capen would like to give her his index to the letters and visit her in Baltimore if she wishes. Mt. Ida.

Swarr noting that some small incorrect charges against Harriet Lane Johnston remain unsatisfied, reminding him that he has failed to give her James Buchanan’s personal record of his investments as he had promised to do, and stating his preference that all the papers used by Mr. Curtis should be held together and equitably divided after the book is published.
