Handwritten autobiography of Thomas Welsh, written in third person. Text sketches his military career through the Battle of South Mountain. This is an unfinished draft, with portions crossed out. Initially written in July 1862 while he was at Hilton Head, South Carolina then the section about Acquia Creek, Virginia and South Mountain, Maryland were added in pencil after the Battle of South Mountain, September 14, 1862.

Although undated, this was clearly written after November 29, 1862 when he was brevetted to Brigadier (more likely it was written shortly before or after he was commissioned in March 1863). An English grammar reference book that belonged to Lieutenant Thomas Welsh entitled "The Whole Outlines of English Grammar; a Full Definition of the Ten Parts of Speech, each part of speech systematically parsed. False Syntax Corrected. Examples &c, Rules for Writing, Punctuating, &c." The cover also lists principle business rules of arithmetic, and mensuration, tables, etc.; mechanics' works, rules, guides, etc.; geographical definitions, important dates, celebrated characters, Biblical table, forms of writings, bookkeeping, and vocal exercises, etc. The volume is a well-used pocket reference.

Business card identifying Thomas Welsh as Justice of the Peace and as agent for the Commonwealth Fire Insurance Company and the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company. Card can be dated to between the latter half of 1859 (when he became a Penn Mutual agent) and the first half of 1860 (when he appears to have stopped selling for Commonwealth). As Justice of the Peace, he lists his services as "Collections made and returns promptly remitted. Deeds, Bonds, Mortgages, &c. carefully prepared." Illegible writing (names) on back of card.

Title certificate for two burial lots, numbers 241 and 242 in New Cemetery (now Mount Bethel Cemetery), Columbia, Pennsylvania. Purchased at the time of his daughter Addie's death. Certificate number 92, made out to Lieutenant Thomas Welsh. Signed J. H. Mifflin. Note: John Houston Mifflin was one of the original managers of the cemetery and later served as president.
