Lockard as a result of disease contracted during the Vicksburg campaign and the pursuit of General Johnston. Handwritten dispatches from General John Parke to General Welsh on letterhead of Headquarters, Ninth Army Corps; Ninth Army Corps crossed out and Expeditionary Army written in. Near Jackson, Mississippi. Dispatches announce fall of Port Hudson and the victory of Union forces at Gettysburg. Dispatches are from Major General John Parke, signed by R. M. Sawyer, Assistant Adjutant General.
