Description
Two issues of the Weekly Journal, White Pigeon, Michigan. December 14, 1878 contains the obituary of an individual named James Buchanan (pg. 1) who was born August 14, 1807 and died November 28, 1878, and the wedding announcement of Ella Buchanan to John Gunn (p. 5). The January 18, 1879 edition has no reference of Buchanan in the paper, but has the name “Chas Buchanan” written on the top of the first page. [These Buchanans may be related through President Buchanan’s father.]

Printed version of the court case between the executors of James Buchanan’s estate and Henry E. Johnston and Harriet L. Johnston, his wife, concerning the papers left by Buchanan, some delivered to William B. Reed for the purpose of writing a biography (as directed by the will, but Reed refused to write the biography), the alleged mis-handling by E. Y. Buchanan of a large number of family papers in the possession of the defendants, and the unwillingness of E. Y. Buchanan to destroy certain papers as directed by the will. Lancaster.
