Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson stating that he has to go with the President and the Cabinet to the Capitol for signing of a number of bills and he has to announce them as fast as they are signed; therefore he will not be able to go with her unless the bills move faster than he thinks; and that her father is better. Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson expressing his elation that the wedding is almost here and he can call her “wife”; is concerned with the wedding details such as his garment and the invitations; hopes that she will vanquish “our enemy,” her illness soon; wrote the President a “very dutiful but strong” letter but has not heard his reply; his business is improving; had a very cold July 4; approves her keeping Miss Emily out of “the plot” and disapproves of a priest acting “in that way.” Envelope with postmark and stamp addressed to Miss Mary H. One of eleven pieces from James Buchanan's French Parisian Pink dinner service. Designed and decorated by Jean-Pierre Feuillet in Paris at his studio on rue de la Paix no. 20.
The cup has a painted winter scene of a man and dog with a bridge and house in background. The sides and back are pink with a gilt rim, cup interior, handle and foot trim. Bottom has designer's signature.
Made by the Nast or Darte Freres factory. Jean-Pierre Feuillet, designer.

Demitasse saucer has central gold medallion and gilt cavetto below a wide pink band within a gilt edge. On bottom is the decorator's signature.
