Henry citing reasons for not marrying until James Buchanan gives his consent; James Buchanan thinks James Buchanan Henry should remain his secretary for the whole term; she is willing to wait and is sure that Mr. Scharff, which whom James Buchanan Henry is to set up a law practice will understand; Ella has received a letter from Miss Bright giving a false account of the plans of Mary and James Buchanan Henry. Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson apologizing for not writing on schedule but while they are in the country the regular schedule will not work since the President leaves the While House on Friday for the weekend; he is arranging a Party for a sail on the Harriet Lane that he will have no time to write; he hopes the trip will include Annapolis so that he might bring is best friend Mr. Scharff, who has kept him from becoming too wild, to meet her and implores her to like him; General Ward is joining the group in hopes that Miss Saunders will also be there, but she will not be; mentions her cousin Margie, the Ingrahams, and her aunt; chatted with Miss Emily.
