Henry to Louisa Anderson lamenting the fact that Dody had been dismissed from St. Stephen’s School and begins to doubt if Dody will contribute much to society; looks forward to her joining him, two of the children and Ellen the nanny soon; Ellen misses her child; is unhappy about having to provide board for Schell and plans to dismiss him and seek a local man; sends love to the family and includes of copy of President Garrett’s letter dismissing Dody from school. After usual greetings, says he has telegraphed her that they will be home on Thursday because of scarlet fever in the area; asks her to arrange for children’s care on a farm and is greatly concerned about the issue; is caring well for James and Ellen since Lulie has gone home; hoping that she can come back soon. Enclosed telegraph from Louis R. [Lege] that his baby has died of scarlet fever. Envelope in five pieces with postmark and three loose stamps [two from other envelopes]. Watch Hill.

Henry to Louisa Anderson providing a menu to show that they are eating well; recounting his encounter with a major storm on the sea between Martha’s Vineyard and Newport, Rhode Island, fearing for the lives of Ives, Shirley, and himself; they miraculously landed on a sandy beach and avoided the rocks; rescued, he made arrangements to reclaim the yacht; enjoyed the celebration at the yacht harbor with fireworks, his was the smallest yacht ; cites a number of yellow fever cases of Dr. [Leery] and Frank; hopes they are all right; gives love to her father, aunt, brother, and the children.
