James Buchanan Henry bequeathed this bust to his son, Frank Anderson Henry, who donated it to the James Buchanan Foundation in 1960.

Letter from Harriet Lane Johnston to Lodie [Lois Buchanan] concerning the illness of James Buchanan and the doctors who have visited, instructions regarding putting away baby’s winter clothes, a “lost card,” decorating the house in Baltimore, Mr. Johnston’s horse, and Buck’s account of the family in Baltimore. Letter from James Buchanan to Harriet Lane Johnston commenting on the funeral of Miss Yeates and the lack of the old families in attendance, but led by the Cunninghams; commenting on Catharine’s will of a number of years ago and that her sister, Mrs. Cunningham, “bore the life of her sister with Christian resignation”; lamenting the last escapade of Thomas, who is back after quitting and getting his pocket picked of his earnings but that his wife Rosanna is an excellent cook; noting the “three young ones” give much pleasure to Miss Hetty; saying that Jessie, at the age of seventeen looks more like twenty, has good manners, an amenable disposition, “quite good looking,” leaning toward corpulence, will visit General Ramsay’s family in Washington, whose daughter is a good friend; noting that Blanche Nevin is unwell; complaining about the lack of communication from Mr. Schell, but James Henry might have some information; complimenting her on her housekeeping and asking her to cultivate the female members of the Johnston family; looking forward to another visit to “the Palace” but wants only “common fare”; and noting that Mrs. Steinman and sister visited a few days ago. Belger and that he is gentleman and aide to General Revere; asking her to tell Edward that he has not been informed about the Weaver wedding; and stating that he won’t subscribe to Judge Upshur’s essay since he has out-Calhouned Calhoun.
