Notes
James Buchanan Henry inherited this bust when his Uncle James Buchanan died; his cousin, Harriet Lane Johnston inherited the matching bust, which she later donated to the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
James Buchanan Henry bequeathed this bust to his son, Frank Anderson Henry, who donated it to the James Buchanan Foundation in 1960.
Two brown buttons with "Landon" above a "G.O.P." elephant and "Knox" below. Buttons are pinned to yellow felt circles with scalloped/petal edges like flowers. Alf Landon (1887-1987) and Frank Knox (1874-1944) were Republican candidates for President and Vice-President in 1936.
Commercially printed black ink certificate with oval openings for pictures of the husband and wife. Here there are color inserts of a yellow and a pink rose. Top center pictures a woman and a man in a small boat. There's an open Bible with a gold wedding ring on it at center bottom. Written information: "Mr. John B. Fisher of Manor Twp, Lancaster Co. Penna. and Miss Alice Herr, Creswell, Manor Twp. Lancaster Co. Penna,/ were joined together in Holy Matrimony/ at Creswell, Penna, on the twenty-fifth day of October/ in the year of Our Lord, One Thousand Eight Hundred/ and eight two in accordance with the Laws of the State/ of Pennsylvania and the usages of the Evangelical Association/ Witnesses Frank Stauffer, Rev. W. C. Kantner/ Mattie Herr....Lith. by A. Hoen & Co. Balto. Copyright, D.W. Crider 1877. Crider & Bro. Publishers, York, Pa."

Henry to Louisa Anderson describing his departure from Staten Island to the Battery of Manhattan to board a ship to Bermuda; describes in detail the rough voyage through the Gulf Stream; describes his first view of the island and then a lengthy description of the horticulture and other aspects of the island; among his acquaintances along the way were Frank, who saw him off; a German gentleman who almost missed the boat; Mr. Murphy; the Outerbridges; Mr. O and his uncle Harvey, Ellie, Miss Lollie O., Mrs. Butterfield, Mrs. Bullafus and Miss Lotte and Mrs. Beille; and Aunt Sidney. Some fading throughout. Envelope with address of Hamilton Hotel, Jno. W. Dodge & Harnett, Bermuda back flap detached, no stamp, with Hamilton postmark addressed to Mrs. J. Buchanan Henry, Stapleton, Staten Island, New York.

Henry to Louisa Anderson lamenting his boredom, with the only excitement being the arrival of a steamer; his longing for a letter from her, even though the boat with the letter had trouble docking; replies to news from her letter including news of Dody, little Esther’s passing, her father Will Buchanan’s and Bib Christy’s grief; wants her to handle some financial affairs; wanted to go to other islands but the weather is too hot; made the acquaintance of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Smith of Watertown; hopes Mr. Gray is called to the church; Lollie Outerbridge reports that Mr. Cartwright is interim Pastor; mentions Mr. and Mrs. Butterfield and Terrie Roosevelt, the Murphys, Mr. Perrsett, Mr. Ball, Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Magruder; the climate is warm and damp with little variation in temperature and many cloudy days; describes the island with its many plants, the results of a series of soundings showing that Bermuda is a coral island; is enamored by the variation of colors in the sea and of the scenery in general; hasn’t bathed in the harbor because of his rheumatism; sends greetings to her father, Aunt Sidney, Willie, Frank, his son, Miss Outerbridge; hopes to be home very soon.
