Genealogy and ephemera from the Welsh family Bible. A portion of The Holy Bible, Kimber & Sharpless' Edition. published in Philadelphia in 1850 by Jesper Harding. The section in this collection consists of 4 and 2/3 chapters of Maccabees I and 15 chapters of Maccabees II, as well as the records of births, deaths, and marriages of family members, beginning with Annie Eunice Young Welsh's parents and running through the death of Annie's daughter-in-law, Emilie Benson Welsh, in 1938. Tucked in the back cover is a notice of a memorial service for Lillian Welsh. Note: The date of the Bible, and the family records it contains suggest that this was acquired by Thomas Welsh and Annie Young when they were married on October 24, 1850.

Description
Typed transcription of a poem written by Lieutenant Thomas Welsh on the eve of his departure for the Mexican War. Poem consists of 4 stanzas, 4 lines each. At the bottom of the page is the announcement of the death of Gen. Welsh and the seven lines that Annie Welsh added sometime after the poem first appeared in Harper's Weekly, 2 January 1892. Scrapbook appears to be the work of Thomas' son, Blanton Welsh. The volume was origianlly a record book for the Commonwealth Insurance Company, for which Thomas Welsh was an agent in Columbia. The scrapbook contains newspaper articles from the Columbia Spy, beginning with articles on the cholera epidemic of 1854, Welsh's cases as Justice of the Peace, and published war correspondence by Thomas Welsh under the names "Thirsty Squad" and "45". Blanton continued the scrapbook with newspaper articles about his father and sisters, and a lawsuit against him in 1930; his mother's obituary; his wedding announcement; his visiting cards; a letter from Lillie to Blanton; and letters to Thomas Welsh. Miscellaneous notes and sketches written by Thomas Welsh, including: 1) A sketch about the amount of money the public had to pay for Queen Victoria's wedding, evidently copied from the Philadelphia Ledger. 2) A notice of the death of General Thomas Sumpter [Sumter] of South Carolina, evidently copied from the Philadelphia Ledger, June 23, 1840. 3) A note about the population of Lowell, Mass. being top heavy in favor of females, evidently from the Times, Philadelphia. 4) A note about the suicide death (by starvation) of John Jordan, from the Columbia Spy. 5) A mock newspaper article about Thomas Welsh leaving Columbia August 29, 1843 for Baltimore and Washington.

Poems and notes by Thomas Welsh. This page consists of 1) Two stanzas from the anonymous short poem “Music” included at the beginning of the document use the metaphor of music to describe the grandeur of sounds found throughout nature (waterfalls, wind, rain, streams, etc.). The 2 additional lines suggest that Welsh may have been trying to add to the poem. 2) 9 lines of bold script identifying Thomas Welsh at Mrs. Philips Missouri Hotel in Little Rock, July 30, 1845; and also referencing Captain Alexander at Fort Smith; Daniel Boone Logan, son of Col. Logan, Creole Agent; Charles Adamson of Little Rock; Mr. Hicks printer; the Steamboat Frankland with Kendall as Master, Wade as Clerk, and Dallow as Bar Keeper. These appear to be notes made by Welsh to remember names and details.
