Summary
"This book is a transcription of the muster rolls and pay rolls of the state militia troops who were paid to protect the frontier or who fought alongside federal troops in the various frontier campaigns. From the records of the Adjutant General's Office located in the National Archives, Murtie June Clark compiled data from the surviving federal records of the militia organizations of the following states and territories: Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey, Ohio Territory, Pennsylvania, Southwest Territory (modern Tennessee), and Virginia. Named in these records, with dates of enlistment, rank, and other items of information, are militia troops participating in St. Clair's defeat in the Northwest Territory, Anthony Wayne's expeditions, the Whiskey Rebellion, the Battle of Fallen Timbers, and a host of other campaigns in areas north of the Ohio River, in Tennessee, along the Oconee in Georgia, and elsewhere." Admin/Biographical History
On 22 February 1878, Peter Watt, James Shand and Gilbert Thompson advertised the opening of a new store, The New York Store, featuring new lines of foreign and domestic dry goods as well as fancy goods and notions. The New York Store opened on 9 March 1878 and was an immediate success focusing on customer service. The owners had an unwritten policy stating that they remained open until the last customer left. During that first year, partner Gilbert Thompson died. Watt and Shand purchased a building located at 8-10 East King Street and changed their name from The New York Store to Watt, Shand and Company. Then during 1885, the store name was shortened to Watt & Shand even though the business was expanding to acquire 6 East King Street. The Ladies' Ready-To-Wear Department was added in 1889 which included coats, suits, dresses, and underwear. The owners proceeded to expand the business over several decades and procured Appel & Weber jewelry store and Hager's Department Store during the 1950s and 1960s. The branch store opened in 1970 at Park City Mall. The Bon-Ton Stores purchased Watt & Shand in 1992 and the store officially closed in March of 1995

Items in the collection range in date from 1962 through 2008.
Admin/Biographical History
Hattie Brunner was born on November 27, 1889 in East Cocalico Township, Lancaster Pennsylvania, to Abiram and Mary Klapp. In 1896, her father died, and seven-year-old Hattie was sent to a dairy farm where she worked to earn her room and board. At age 10, Hattie left the dairy farm, and began working for the Brunner family- where she stayed until she was 18. In 1917, Hattie was awarded her Teacher's Certificate from the Philadelphia Musical Academy, and in 1918 she married Raymond Brunner, and moved back into the home she had worked in as a young girl. Hattie opened her antique shop "The Tulip Shop" in the early 1930's, and operated it until the early 1980's. Hattie started painting in the late 1950's and soon became as known for her art, as she was for her antiquing.
