Russian War Relief Program
Description
This collection documents Lancaster County's support of Russian War Relief, Inc. during World War II. The organization was incorporated in New York City one month after Germany attacked the Soviet Union, in order to provide humanitarian support for Soviet citizens and war orphans who were living in devastated villages with near-famine conditions. Russian War Relief, Inc. worked with local War Chests, Community Chests and the National War Fund in order to raise money for the campaign. Clothing, food and Christmas gifts for children were also collected. F. Lyman Windolph, a Lancaster lawyer, worked with a few others in the community to collect contributions from 1942-1944. The collection contains a publicity portfolio for Russian War Relief, Inc. and correspondence between Mr. Windolph and members of the organization from 1942-1945.

The majority of the letters are from Alice Ferree Todd to her husband Moses Hampton Todd (1945-1935). The remaining are correspondences between Alice and her family (sisters and other relatives) as well as mortgages/deeds signed by James Barr Ferree, Alice's father.

Description
The World War II Collection contains materials pertaining to local defense plans during World War II (1939-1945) including the correspondence of Civil Defense Units, air raid wardens, and police; member lists; an emergency defense plan; newspaper clippings; ephemera such as war ration books, song book, and programs; and records of the Victory Homecoming Parade of 14 June 1946. Local newsletters were sent to soldiers to share the news of Lancaster County communities. Posters convey messages to join the military, buy war bonds, ration food and fuel, recycle, etc. Oral history interviews taken in 2003 provide biographical information and the experiences of four POWs.

Description
This collection contains a fold-out map detailing the travels of William Fordney. On the back of the map, Fordney has recorded the stops from three trip to the western United States in 1874, 1877, and 1889, as well as stops from his year-long trip around the world from 1881-1882. Along with city and country names, Fordney also includes distance traveled between stops and the mode of transportation. On the map itself, Fordney's 1881 trip is outlined.

William Jenkins Fordney was born in 1844, and was the brother-in-law of Ida Mary Cox Fordney. William was a Lancaster, Pennsylvania native who traveled around the world from 1881-1882 and took multiple trips to the western United States.
