Copy of the list of contributors to the new stand of colors presented to the 79th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers at Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
"We, the undersigned agree to pay the sums set opposite our names ($1. each) for the purpose of purchasing a stand of colors for the 79th Pennsylvania (Lancaster County) Regiment of Volunteers, commanded by Col. Henry A. Hambright--to be presented as a testimonial of the high regard and esteem in which they are held by their fellow-citizens at home, for their admirable discipline and unflinching bravery at Chaplin Hills and Chattanooga."
The names have been recorded in the copy, they are not the original signatures and may not be accurate.

Miniature portrait of Hiram B. Swarr by J. Henry Brown. Oval image of Swarr is surrounded by a red velvet oval contained in a rectangular gold-colored plaster frame. Portrait is held into place by two pins. Portrait is of a man in a white shirt and black coat, with bow tie; curly brown hair, beard with no moustache; eyeglasses. Part of a set with 2021.029.002 (Frances O. Swarr). typed label on back identifies subject and artist. Framed by Wunderly Brothers, Pittsburgh.
John Henry Brown's career began in Philadelphia in 1845, where he painted most of his sitters. Brown often preferred to take daguerreotypes of his sitters and use those as guides for his miniatures, rather than having the person sit for him. He claimed it was easier to work from a small image than from a life-size model. (Smithsonian)

Swarr questioning the wisdom of granting a mortgage to Doebler, given only on the advice of Mr. Baer and expressing disappointment that the property comprises only five acres, worth only a loan of $2,000 or $2,500, some or all of which Buchanan will have to borrow.

Swarr instructing him to give Mrs. Kerfoot the indulgence she requested, that of forgiving the interest for a year and enclosing two releases for James Hopkins and wanting to know the amount due on Hopkins’ mortgage, expressing his dislike for such releases, and acknowledging that Hopkins is a “good & valued friend.” With envelope.
