Description
"West Point Tic Tacs, A Collection of Military Verse" is book belonging to Blanton C. Welsh that he recieved in West Point, New York at the military academy there. The book was published by Homer Lee & Co. of 65 Liberty Street, New York and copyrighted in 1878. The book is dedicated to the cadets and graduates of the United States Military Academy. The contents include cadet songs and poems, army poems, and other miscellaneous writings as well as illustrations all from various authors and illustrators. There are also loose interted photographs and paper cut outs throughout the pages and signature pages in the back of the book.

The book is inscribed as belonging to Blanton C. Welsh. Blanton C. Welsh wrote inside "B.C. Welsh, West Point N.Y. June 11, 1878 Class '81. The three loose photots within the book are evidently from West Point and reside between pages 112 and 113. The signatures in the back of the book date mostly from 1880-1881 but vary and date up until 1882.

The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Description
Prospect Mills Daybook from (1870-1872) by Joel Smedley contains an index of clients and what pages they appear on, an itemized list of their profits and expenses, an index of sales and where they are found, the employees of the mill and what they were being compensated for, and lists of how much cider and sausage was made. The profits list ranges from selling molasses, corn, wheat, bran, oats, and flour, as well as sawing boards, turning trundle posts, and rejoining carriage shafts. The recorded expenses for the mill include employee wages and transportation costs.
Admin/Biographical History
Joel Smedley was born in 1799 to parents Joseph Smedley and Rebecca Lewis Smedley. Joel married Martha Wildman and fathered six children including Charles, Mary, John, Lewis, Anne, and Ellwood. Joel inherited the mill from his father in 1833 and expanded it by building a sorghum factory. Joel died in 1872.

Front and back covers, and spine are heavily worn and have red rot. An ~1" section of the front cover and spine have completely worn through. Front cover has an ~1-1/2" tare at the left bottom. An !2" section of the back cover and spine have completely worn through. The "LEDGER" stamp has partially peeled off.
Pages have water damage. The first leaf is missing the vertical half. The index pages are missing ~6" upper corners and tabs a through M are missing.Pages 23-24 & 25-26 are missing ~4" from the bottom edge.

Contains 120 leaves, ruled, and except for the front leaf and index, with vertical accounting lines, and paginated. Contains 4 blank pages).

Owner not identified. This could be Dr. Emanuel R. Hershey, Pharmacist (2 May 1847 - 22 October 1921), buried in the Paradise Cemetery. His father , Abraham Hershey (16 August 1819 - 18 December 1886) at his death had three tracts of land, two of them with improvements. Emanuel was the oldest son and may have kept these records.

The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
