Letter from James Buchanan to Harriet Lane advising her to ask Mrs. Kennedy to appoint H. B. Swarr her attorney to draw up estate papers; admitting that he opened the enclosed letter from Mr. Florey in which he wants to close a loan to her but with conditions; thinking that the influence of Parson Rosenmiller on Dr. Lane would affect adversely the estates of the family; asking that she find out from James Henry whether New York paid interest in gold or “depreciated paper”; finding pleasure in visiting his Chester County farm; and rejoicing at Mrs. Henry’s recovery.
