Scrapbook of ephemera, newspaper articles, and original letters kept by Hiram B. Swarr that includes items related to the 1856 Presidential election, the Democratic Committee of Lancaster County, and the estate of James Buchanan.
The inscription indicates that the scrapbook was given to Edward Elliott Bausman by his mother, Mary Swarr Bausman. Mary was the daughter of Hiram B. Swarr. It is unclear if Mary or Elliott compiled the scrapbook.

Johnston from George Ticknor Curtis stating that he was unable to include an engraving of Mrs. Johnston (or Miss Lane as she then was) in the first volume of Buchanan’s biography for various reasons. The book will be illustrated by two engravings of Buchanan, one by Sartain and another by Buttré, and by a woodcut of Wheatland. Typed on onion-skin paper with manuscript note at end. New York.
