There are also many articles on the Pennsylvania Dutch, personal histories, crime, and genealogical information within the book. Histories for the following municipalities are included: Marietta, Christiana, Columbia, Donegal, Erie, Lancaster, Lititz, Manheim, Maytown, Mountville, Peach Bottom, Salunga, and Wrightsville.

Description: The George Steinman Papers, Series 1 contains an album, compiled by George Steinman, with many photographs of buildings, tombstones, monuments and scenes of Lancaster city and county. Ephemera and newspaper articles are among the photographs. Represented in the album are Postlethwaite's Tavern, hotels and taverns, fire houses, the Conestoga massacre, churches, cemeteries, Ephrata Cloister, prominent citizens and their homes, Stehli Silk Mill, and schools. The four boxes contain orginal correspondence, documents, photographs and ephemera or and pertaining to the same subject matter as the album.

Title: Corporate Lancaster

Description: Corporate Lancaster encompasses a large variety of businesses throughout the county. Many of these businesses are power companies including electric, water and coal. Some of the major companies mentioned include Atglen Water Company, Susquehanna Canal Water and Power Company, Pennsylvania Water and Power Company, Lititz Water Works, Edison Electric Illuminating Company, and Holtwood Coal Company. These comprise the majority of the scrapbook, however, many retail, savings and insurance companies are also mentioned. Recognizable names are F. W. Woolworth and Company, City Savings and Trust, Lancaster Home Mutual Fire Insurance Company, Steinman Hardware Store, and the Hager Store. Information about taxes, population, censuses and stocks are featured in some of the newspaper clippings. Many modes of transportation were written about, such as trolley lines, railroads and canals. The materials available in this book include an account book, newspaper clippings, photographs, advertisements, and postcards.

Description: "General Welsh won High Fame in Civil War." Columbia man gained rank in federal army for meritorious service; fought at Vicksburg. The Sunday News. 3 January 1926.

Admin/Biographical History: Thomas Welsh (1824-1863) was a Lancaster County native (born and raised in Columbia), who rose from hardscrabble origins to local fame, first as a Mexican War hero, and then as a brigadier general during the Civil War. He was well known and well respected as a no nonsense officer, for his leadership and gallantry in battle, for his dedication to the service of his country, and for his concern for the welfare of his men. Admin/Biographical History: Thomas Welsh (1824-1863) was a Lancaster County native (born and raised in Columbia), who rose from hardscrabble origins to local fame, first as a Mexican War hero, and then as a brigadier general during the Civil War. He was well known and well respected as a no nonsense officer, for his leadership and gallantry in battle, for his dedication to the service of his country, and for his concern for the welfare of his men. Title: Prospect Mills Daybook

Description: Prospect Mills Daybook from (1870-1872) by Joel Smedley contains an index of clients and what pages they appear on, an itemized list of their profits and expenses, an index of sales and where they are found, the employees of the mill and what they were being compensated for, and lists of how much cider and sausage was made. The profits list ranges from selling molasses, corn, wheat, bran, oats, and flour, as well as sawing boards, turning trundle posts, and rejoining carriage shafts. The recorded expenses for the mill include employee wages and transportation costs.

Admin/Biographical History: Joel Smedley was born in 1799 to parents Joseph Smedley and Rebecca Lewis Smedley. Joel married Martha Wildman and fathered six children including Charles, Mary, John, Lewis, Anne, and Ellwood. Joel inherited the mill from his father in 1833 and expanded it by building a sorghum factory. Joel died in 1872.
